Concepting

From strategic concept to tangible result.

In the world of design, concepts are the starting point for innovation. Whether it's a "proefballonnetje" (test balloon) to explore new possibilities, or a "high-pressure" concept with a tight deadline for key stakeholders, I expertly navigate the challenges.

I believe in creating concepts that are not only creative and inspiring but also strategically sound, with both the user and business goals in mind.

Track & Trace

My role in this project was to solve a fundamental user problem that emerged from our research: the lack of insight into the status of requests and candidates. The solution required a strategic and holistic approach.

  1. Problem Identification: Through in-depth user research, we identified the lack of transparency as one of the biggest pain points. Clients wanted to know the status of their requests and the current phase of their candidates in the hiring process.

  2. Holistic Design: I designed a status system that was not limited to a single location. Instead, we integrated the statuses at every relevant point of the user journey: on the dashboard for a quick overview, on the request page for specific details, and during the onboarding process for candidate progress.

  3. Validation and Result: Before we went live, we extensively validated the clarity and usability of the statuses with our clients. The result is a significantly improved user experience. The portal is now not only efficient but also transparent and reliable, which increases client trust.

My role in this project was to completely redesign the order management flow with a clear focus on mobile use. I led the entire process, from the initial research phase to the final implementation, with the goal of creating an intuitive and efficient mobile experience.

  1. Research and Insight: I started with in-depth research to understand how users managed their orders, especially when they were on the go. I identified the pain points of desktop dependency and the need for real-time access to crucial information directly from their smartphones.

  2. Strategy and Design: Based on these insights, I designed a mobile-first solution. The focus was on creating a simple and clear interface that makes it possible to view order statuses, make updates, and communicate with customers with just a few swipes and taps.

  3. Implementation and Result: By working closely with the development team, I ensured a flawless implementation of the mobile design. The result is a robust and user-friendly platform that significantly increases productivity, as users can now efficiently manage their orders anywhere and at any time.

Redesign Dutch Client Portal

I led the UX strategy for the redesign of a complex client portal, with a focus on creating a modern and scalable solution. The entire process, from the initial analysis to the final delivery, was centered on building a robust design foundation.

  1. Inventory and Architecture: I started with a thorough inventory of all existing components to identify inconsistencies and bottlenecks. Based on this, I designed the architecture for a centralized design system that would form the basis for the new portal.

  2. Custom Components and Scalability: With the design system as a guide, I designed complex and future-proof components, particularly for data display in tables and for processing expense claims. The design system ensures that these components are easy to maintain and adapt for Randstad, Tempo-Team, and Yacht.

  3. Result and Impact: The delivery of this project resulted in a uniform and future-proof portal that not only significantly improves the user experience but also shortens development time and guarantees consistency across all brands.

Dutch Client Portal

For 5 years, I led the UX strategy and execution for a complex B2B HR portal. My role encompassed the entire design process, from beginning to end.

  1. Research and Insight: Through intensive research, I gained a deep understanding of the needs of HR clients. This insight formed the foundation for all subsequent design phases.

  2. Strategy and Design: I designed the platform's architecture with a clear focus on the most business-critical tasks: submitting requests, managing employee data, and especially handling expense claims.

  3. Implementation and Optimization: I collaborated closely with development teams to ensure the designs were implemented meticulously and continuously optimized.

The result is a robust and efficient platform that empowers users to effortlessly carry out their complex HR tasks, providing significant value to both them and the organization.

Payroll, ZZP, Doorleen & Detachering Flow

My role in this project was to optimize a fundamental business process and translate its complexity into a seamless user flow. I designed the personnel request flows with a strategic approach to maximize usability.

  1. Analysis of Complexity: I started by mapping the unique requirements and characteristics of each construction: freelance, secondment, temporary staffing, and payroll. This analysis formed the foundation for the design process, with the goal of creating a flow that handled all nuances correctly.

  2. Designing for Fluidity: I designed an adaptive flow that adjusts to the chosen construction. The focus was on minimizing unnecessary steps, eliminating friction, and offering clear, step-by-step guidance.

  3. Result and Impact: The end result is a set of optimized flows that enables the client to submit complex requests quickly and flawlessly. This has significantly increased the efficiency of both the client and the internal teams and shows how strategic design can simplify even the most complex business processes.

Optimizing Timesheets

Timesheets are a crucial part of the client platform and are essential for employee payroll. In this project, my goal was to optimize the user experience based on the needs of hiring managers to create a smoother and more efficient process.

1. Research: Mapping Pain Points: The first phase focused on in-depth research with hiring managers. Through interviews and observations, it became clear that reminding employees to submit timesheets was a major frustration. The most crucial need that emerged from this research was the ability to automatically send reminders to employees, which would significantly ease the managers' workflow.

2. Prototyping & Validation: A new weekly view based on these insights, I designed a detailed prototype. The focus was on creating a new, intuitive weekly view that improves clarity. The new functionality for sending reminders was integrated into this prototype. I then validated this prototype with users to ensure that the design was not only functional but also offered the most intuitive solution for their daily tasks.

3. Implementation: Collaboration with the Development Team. In the final phase, I worked closely with the development team to realize the validated design. As the bridge between design and development, I guided the team in correctly implementing the new weekly view and the reminder functionality.

The result is a revamped timesheet environment that not only increases efficiency for hiring managers but also contributes to an accurate and timely payroll process for employees.

Employee detail page

In this project, we faced the challenge of renewing the employee detail page and providing it with new, valuable functionalities. We researched client needs and developed concepts for a timeline showing all of an employee's assignments and a 'slow chat' to contact a support agent. Our goal was to determine which features would be most impactful and if they were worth the investment in development.

1. Concepting: Exploring New Functionalities: We began by mapping out the possibilities for the renewed page. The focus was on adding functionalities that would significantly improve the client experience, such as the timeline view, which provides a complete overview of an employee's past assignments, and a 'slow chat' that opens a direct line of communication with support staff.

2. Validation & User Testing: Testing Reality. To prevent wasting valuable development capacity, I designed detailed prototypes of these functionalities and tested them with clients. The user testing process was of crucial importance. The feedback revealed that the proposed features, particularly the timeline and slow chat, were not as well-received as expected. The feedback was clear: the added complexity did not outweigh the added value for the user.

3. The Right Decision: Implementing a Simplified Solution. Armed with these insights, we made a strategic decision. Instead of building all the features, we adjusted our plans and focused on a simple but clear redesign of the page. The end result is an optimized version that directly meets the user's needs while preventing the building of unnecessary and expensive functionalities.

This project is a perfect example of how a UX-driven approach leads to better and more efficient product decisions.
